When using laminating film, many people will ask: How thick should I choose? In fact, laminating films of different thicknesses have different uses. This article will tell you how to choose the appropriate laminating film thickness in a simple and clear way.

1. What are the common thicknesses?

50 mic: very thin, suitable for one-time use documents

60 mic: common office thickness

80 mic: suitable for frequently read materials

100 mic: medium thickness, more protective

125 mic: thicker, suitable for documents that need to be kept for a long time, such as certificates and menus

150 mic and above: used for special documents or industrial applications

2.How to choose thickness according to usage?

Application

Recommended Thickness

Temporary documents/Drafts

50-60μm

Office documents/Educational materials

80-100μm

Menus/Certificates/Photo displays

125-150μm

Outdoor signs/Industrial use

150μm+

3. Is thicker better?

Not necessarily! The thicker the laminating film, the stronger the protection, but it also means:

It is harder after laminating and not easy to bend

The laminating machine temperature requirements are higher

The cost will also be higher

Some points you need to pay attention to

Double-sided thickness: 80 mic, actually 40 mic per side, a total of 80 mic.

Choose a suitable laminating machine: different thicknesses require different temperatures and speeds, and pay attention to compatibility if it is too thin or too thick.

It is recommended to sample before bulk purchase: the material of each laminating film is slightly different, it is recommended to try a few sheets first to see the effect.

If special thickness customization is required, we support various specifications from 80μm to 300μm, and can provide different surface treatment effects such as matte and gloss.
