I. Laminator Prices

Laminators are very affordable. You can choose one based on your needs. The price range for home or small office laminators is between $17 and $70.70.

For basic lamination of ordinary A4 paper (70g + 3mil laminating pouches), a laminator priced at around $17 can meet your needs.

For laminating photos, it is recommended to use photo paper with a thickness of no more than 160g.

Thicker paper may not work well with most home laminators.

A laminator priced between $20 and $27.88 can meet the needs for photo lamination.

If used correctly, a laminator can last for 1-3 years.

II. Caution with Non-Standard Lamination Methods

Laminating pouches, also known as thermal laminating film, require a certain temperature to melt the adhesive and complete the lamination process.

For example, a 3mil laminating pouches require a temperature of around 130-135°C.

There are various non-standard methods of using laminating pouches circulating online, such as using hair straighteners or irons.

These methods can be tried for non-important documents, but they are not recommended for important files.

This is because these methods have unstable temperature control, which can easily damage the laminating pouches and documents, and they have limited single-use lamination areas, often resulting in uneven lamination.

III. Cold Lamination

If you do not want to buy a laminator and only need to laminate a small number of items, you can use cold laminating pouches.

Cold laminating pouches do not require heat;

they rely on pressure to complete the lamination process. When laminating, simply cover one side of the document with the pouch and press out any air bubbles to ensure a smooth finish.

IV. Tips for Choosing Laminating Pouches:

Size Selection: The size of the laminating pouch should match the size of the paper, but the pouch should be 10mm larger than the paper.

For example, for a 6-inch paper (102x152mm), you should choose a 6-inch laminating pouch (110x160mm).

Thickness Selection: Generally, 3mil/80mic thickness is recommended as it is a standard medium thickness, neither too soft nor too hard.

A 5mil/100mic thickness is thicker and stiffer, and both of these thicknesses are compatible with all laminators on the market.
